Why Reunions Matter: Reflections on Friendship, Laughter, and Self-Care
There are some commitments I simply don’t miss — and my school reunions are at the top of that list.
Every year, as life grows busier and responsibilities expand, I still carve out time to reconnect with the sisters of my youth. Because these gatherings aren’t just about nostalgia — they’re about wellness, community, and joy.
Intentional self-care is more than spa days and health check-ups. Sometimes, it looks like laughter over old memories, sharing life’s lessons, and reminding ourselves that we’re still that vibrant, unstoppable group of girls (just with a little more wisdom sprinkled in).
I often say to myself: while I can, I will. Because there will come a time when travelling up and down will slow, and the opportunities to gather won’t come as easily. That’s why I choose to make the most of now.
This year, the reunion takes me to Abuja — and I’m already looking forward to the laughter, the hugs, and the stories that will keep me smiling long after the trip ends.
If you’ve been hesitating about attending your own alumni reunion, here’s my nudge: go. Show up. The gift of friendship, connection, and shared history is one of the best investments in your wellbeing.
And if you know, you know. 😉
